Bravo Ph Probe

TESTS

Bravo pH Probe

A Bravo pH Probe is a screening system that monitors the acid in your stomach for an extended period of time. Bravo pH utilizes a small capsule that is given to the patient by mouth. The capsule attaches to the esophagus wall and transmits pH data for approximately 48 hours. The capsule is only temporarily attached, and emits twice the data that traditional catheter-based tests do when measuring stomach acid. The Bravo pH Monitoring system offers three symptom buttons that the patient is required to push when certain symptoms are experienced. For example, when heartburn is felt, the patient presses the corresponding heartburn button. There are also buttons for regurgitation and chest pain. In addition to the measurements, the patient keeps a diary to record lifestyle information, such as periods of sleep and eating that occurred during the screening process. After 48 hours of screening, your physician will be able to examine relationships between normal and reflux events. Your physician will also be able to evaluate what kinds of symptoms you experience and administer the best course of treatment.
