Roseola

Roseola is a very common viral infection that typically affects children aged six months to 2 years old. The majority of children will have been infected with roseola by the time they reach kindergarten. The condition usually causes a rapidly occurring high fever (103-105 degrees F) that lasts several days, followed by a rash. While symptoms may be almost undetectable with less severe cases, some patients may experience swelling around their eyes, diarrhea, fatigue, irritability, and loss of appetite along with the rash. While roseola is an infectious disease that spreads by contact with an infected person’s saliva or respiratory secretions, it does not usually occur in large outbreaks. Roseola is usually treated with Tylenol or ibuprofen medications – do NOT give your child aspirin.
