Pagets Disease Nipple

Paget's Disease of the Nipple

Paget’s Disease of the Nipple is a rare form of breast cancer that involves the skin of the nipple and surrounding areola. It often presents with one or multiple tumors within the breast, which may be localized (non-invasive) or have spread to surrounding tissue, possibly including the lymph nodes. Because this disease so often presents with tumors within the breast, the main method for treating it used to be a mastectomy. However, recent research has shown that for patients without a detectable breast tumor, more conservative, breast-saving surgery can be performed to remove the nipple and areola, followed by whole-breast radiation therapy.
