Morphea

Morphea (also known as localized scleroderma) is a disorder that causes reddish or purplish patches to appear on the surface of the skin. These patches are scar-like and usually affect the abdomen, chest or back. If the condition is affecting the skin that covers a joint, then joint movement may be restricted. Morphea usually lasts several years and then disappears on its own over time, but it can leave behind darkened or discolored skin. There are many treatments available to help manage the condition at every stage, including light therapy, anti-inflammatory medicine, vitamin D supplements, lifestyle changes and physical therapy if the joints are affected.
