Mallet Toes

CONDITIONS

Mallet Toes

Mallet toes usually develop due to a toe injury, arthritis, bone and muscle imbalances and wearing shoes that fit too tightly. This causes the toe (most commonly the second toe) to buckle and form a callus on its tip. Mallet toes can become inflamed and painful, and the callus can develop into an ulcer if it isn’t treated. There are conservative treatments that can help reduce symptoms early on, including using a pumice stone to keep the callus thin, wearing shoes that allow more room for your toes, and stretching and strengthening the muscles in your feet.
