Keloids Excessive Scar Tissue

CONDITIONS

Keloids (Excessive Scar Tissue)

Keloids are an excess growth of scar tissue that appears at the site of a skin injury such as acne, burns, chickenpox, scratches, cuts and surgeries. They are non-cancerous lesions that commonly occur between the ages of 10 and 20, but can develop anywhere and anytime after a skin injury has healed over. They may appear flesh-colored, red or pink with a lumpy or rigid surface. If a keloid is very noticeable, certain treatments can be used to remove or fade it, including intralesional therapy, corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, laser treatments, radiation and surgical excision.
