Chronic Lateral Ankle Pain

Chronic lateral ankle pain refers to pain on the outside of the ankle that usually develops after an accident. Other factors involved with this condition include ankle instability, difficulty walking on uneven ground, repeated ankle sprains, stiffness, swelling and tenderness. Falls, sprained ankles, arthritis, fractures, injuries or a torn or inflamed tendon can all contribute to chronic lateral ankle pain. Most such pain can be treated with prescription medication, physical therapy, bracing or stenting, steroid medications and immobilization.
