Charcot Foot

CONDITIONS

Charcot Foot

Charcot foot is a form of arthritis that often develops suddenly and without pain in patients with sensory disorders or neuropathy. The bones in the foot and/or ankle spontaneously fracture and fragment, often causing a severe deformity. The arch of the foot can collapse, and pressure areas develop on the bottom of the foot, leading to open sores or ulcers. There are many surgical and non-surgical options available depending on the severity of the condition. Non-surgical options include using a protective splint, medication and lifestyle adjustments. Surgical options include realignment osteotomy and fusion, or an ostectomy to prevent ulcers from forming.
